LEADERSHIP GROUP PROJECT:
We as a group decided to write about West Houston Medical Center in this paper and interviewed three employees in assessing and analyzing the general attributes of the organization. We interviewed three employees in the organization who were; Melissa Green, an Administrative Director for West Houston Medical Center at Sugar Land, Judie Haubrich-Theriot who is an emergency department Director and ------------------------------------------. We chose these people as they are skilled and experienced in their respective departments and provide us the overview of how the hospital workflow runs in both administration and clinical operations.

Based on what we saw at the hospital with the complexity of the organization and bureaucratic mechanisms in organization control, we can say that the formalization of the structure is very high which results in higher level of conformance quality by being more compliant with the standards, ethics and laws. Melissa’s position on the decision making style is mainly Decentralized, physicians and nurses are typical concerned with the decision making process of the patient care which is their ultimate goal and it appears that the organization encourages the autonomous clinical judgements by their medical staff as a function of degree of involvement in the organization considering the nature of issue at stake. She quotes in interview that even though she or top management is left, she is confident that the medical staff would perform what should be done in the appropriate time period considering the hospital’s quality assurance committee protocols. While coming to the Administrators and trustees, decision making pattern is top down management style where senior board of directors issues the strategies, procedural protocols which are followed at the lower ends of the …show more content…
Considering the healthcare market in Sugar Land, there is a heavy competition with many big competitors for example Houston Methodist, Memorial Hermann, St. Luke’s Health and with their reputation, community programs, volunteer support programs, charitable events most of the volume of the market share are attracted to the big competitors even though West Houston Medical Center is affiliated to HCA, which is the largest healthcare corporation in America. Melissa Green, Administrative Director sees their marketing strategy as a threat for future scope and expansion when compared to the other hospitals in the region by monitoring the marketing decisions and impact which lead in the
