Catherine Genovese from Brooklyn New York was fatally attacked, and stabbed in two separate late-night attacks in 1964 near her home by Winston Moseley. The murder happened when Genovese was heading home from work late at night. As she parked her car nearby her apartment she began walking, but startled after hearing foot-steps approaching her, she then began running away but Moseley caught up to her with a knife stabbing her 4 times. Genovese screamed loudly waking up neighbors but none of them calling the police. However, after a neighbor heard Genovese screaming shouting what was going on in there, Moseley ran to his car initially scared off.
David Zinczenko’s essay, “Don’t Blame the Eater,” express the relationship between obese children and fast-food restaurants. Zinczenko observes that fast-food restaurants are located almost everywhere, are inexpensive, and are easy to access. Comparing that it is easier: to find a McDonald's, but finding an organic grapefruit will cause a scavenger hunt (463). Zinckenzo shares a personal experience of himself, eating fast-food for lunch, and dinner were his only options; resulting in him becoming obese in his early teen years. Thankfully by the time he went to college, he was able to turn his life around.
She started suffering from symptoms of a miscarriage. Once she was done doing her tasks, she left to go report to the hospital. She starts by saying she started bleeding, plus she felt as though the doctors did not help her throughout her back-to-back appointments. While she was sitting in the hospital, despite her bleeding, she bled through her clothes onto the chair. She requested her husband to ask the doctors as well as the nurses if she could transfer to a private area.
She had headed back to camp to sit in front of the fire to warm up. As she was sitting in front of the fire all of a sudden it had exploded. People in the neighborhood hear her cries for help but did nothing. Some turned on their lights to see what was happening, one neighbor even yelled out “let that girl alone!” but that’s all he did, seems like the killer stabbed her and then was frighten and left kitty only to come back and stab her again. The most common type of victim portrayed in media is often times women who are helpless. Because of this fear of crime many of the witnesses themselves wanted to feel safe. For example the neighbor who said” let the girl alone,” did it in the confines of his home without further investigation. The reason why Kitty case received so much media attention was because based off some media people were of the view that the city was heartless and as a result was afraid to act. No one wants to be victims of any form of crime and many felt that by intervening they themselves would become victims.
The murder of Kitty Genovese took place on March 13th, 1964 outside of her apartment building in New York. She was attacked three separate times by Winston Moseley, the perpetrator. This particular murder got headline news due to the witnesses of the murder and what was done to intervene. The New York Times were a huge part of the headlines due to their original article written about the murder, which was said to be fabricated for attention purposes. The article claimed that 37-38 people were eye witnesses to the murder during the three different attacks, but no one decided to report the crime to the police which definitely raised some eyebrows.
