Over the course of the week, our class learned about many different denominations. We took notes everyday and opened our horizons to how other people worship Christ. The denomination that I was most fascinated with was the Methodist Church. There are many similarities as well as differences in the Methodist Church and the church that I go to, First Baptist Church in Montgomery. There are many similarities that we learned about through the course of the week between the Baptist and the Methodist church. Both the Baptist and Methodist churches use the Holy Bible as their source of doctrine. They both believe that the Bible is the true Word of God and was inspired by God, but written by man on earth. The United Methodist Church is a member of the radical National and World Council of Churches. John Smyth is known as the founder of the Baptist Church. Baptist are the largest denomination in the United States. The Baptist denomination believe in baptism. While Baptists as well as Methodists agree that baptism is a important part of faith, they disagree on how and when it should be done. In Baptist churches, they believe in baptizing by immersion. They believe you don’t have to be baptized to be saved. However, they believe it’s an outward symbol of an inward decision. Baptist believe in baptism once the person has made the decision to be saved. In the Methodists church, they occasionally immerse, but they also they also use pouring and sprinkling for children and infants.
