There is several challenges local law enforcement officers face. There is fighting terrorism, civil discord, federal agency oversight, recruitment, and retention. There are even more trials faced when it comes to fighting cybercrime. This is because the cyber-world brings worldwide relations to local settings, changing the ways we intermingle with each other (Dolliver, 2013). The challenges include lack of general knowledge, lack of resources and equipment, lack of training, lack of regulations, and a lack of finances. These challenges faced at the local level continue to obstruct efforts to fight computer crimes appropriately. With the rate of growing technology, this makes the local officers fall further behind. Cybercrimes add new dimensions to illegal action and violent threats that some officers struggle to address (Taylor, Fritsch, & Liederbach, 2015). Crimes such as child pornography and exploitation, cyberstalking and cyberbullying, which need to be known as well as how to deal with the incidents. Does the local law enforcement know of the “Dark Net” or “Deep Web”? If the local law department have knowledge of Dark Net, will upper management be willing to provide the necessary resources to handle such threats, and special software needed to gain access.
