Lately, it has been seen that many people have had their privacy invaded by internet hackers. Social networking and other services has played a big role in this problem due to the fact that people who use these social networking sites or other services are trusting these sites to keep their information private, especially when they are being told that it is going to be kept private. People are even having their identities stolen due to the lack of security that the internet provides. When signing up for a social networking account or an email service, one does not expect that information to just be checked without their consent. According to an article written by Molly Wood, “Google said in a 2013 court filing that users had no reasonable expectation that their email communications are confidential” (Wood 3). If any comment would make someone trust a service less, such as Google, it would be that comment. No one expects their information to just be given away at a moment’s notice, if someone is not openly talking on a discussion board that they know everyone will see, then that person expects that conversation to be private. If one chooses a certain service to use, expecting that their information is going to be kept private, especially if they are told it will be private, it should not make it easy for someone to obtain their information, simply by searching the person on Google. The law must be changed and quickly because it is becoming more common for people to keep their bank information and social security information in their computers or other devices. If that information is not kept private on their own property than why is anyone expected to have an ounce of privacy only for it to be invaded on more than one occasion? It is not ok to have someone’s information taken from them and it is even worse to have that information being used by someone else without them being aware of it and then end up having to pay the consequences later for something someone else did falsely posing as that
