One connection that I made between chapter 1 (AA) and chapter 2(AA) is the important of a daily scheduled time to write. In classes that I have observed thus far I have not witnessed such a strong emphasis on writing. As I am going through my education classes and determining how my class will be structured, I already had in mind to always include a daily journal. These first chapters have already resonated the theme to go beyond what you think you know. I have only witnessed writing in the form of journals, writing centers, and class writing discussions. Educators also set the stage for how they approach the act of writing. As I was reading, I visually tried to think of what a writing workshop looks like in a classroom and the teachers’ responsibility to his or her students. The simple act of stapling papers together to create books allows children creative freedom to use their imaginations and make decisions. Chapter 3 (AA) explained more ideas such as word walls, environmental print, read alouds, and word study that could all be used to support writing workshop. As a future educator, I imagined some of my time being spent guiding children how to spell words correctly and again my views have been challenged. I realize that as children piece together the world around them it is my job to give them the tools to explore and create. I know see how important such simple things such as word wall and environmental print can be in a classroom. Parents would easily look over them and not see their importance.
