While sitting in class one day my junior year,with my head down, writing a paper I hear my English teacher say she recommends me to take the URI Writing 104 class the following year. I had always thought I was a good writer, and that words flowed naturally to me. Before my senior year started, I had requested to join this writing class. The class fit into my schedule, but I was immediately regretting it. I was unsure what to expect or how intense the writing assignments would be. My parents said I would do great, not to worry and to stay positive about the growth in writing that I could experience. However, the second I walked into the class and Ms. Huntley slapped the twenty one page syllabus on my desk my regret grew larger and everything my parents had told me flew out the window. Looking back on my first class I realize how much I have improved my writing skills. I am able to write more fluidly and ideas come more quickly to me now. I am able to step back and edit my own writing noticing mistakes I did not before. If someone asked me about the class months ago I would have told them to not even think about taking this course because it seemed too hard. Out of the five projects our class completed this course four of them met the standards of at least a three. My first project was the only paper that was below a 3 overall. This encouraged me to do better. I was motivated to write a paper deserving of an A. Over the course of the next four papers I improved extensively. The grades I were receiving gradually got better and better. My first paper received a score of 70 while my final project received a 96. This showed my growth in the ability to compose a paper and receive an A. My confidence in writing grew as
