Boston: MA In chapter two we learn about how to work with cultures, diversity, special needs, and genders in our classroom. First I found how to make a productive classroom life to be very meaningful. Maxim tells us that teachers who provide warm, nurturing relationships are the ones who will have a productive classroom. I believe in showing your student’s love and care. Teachers influence the students, and sometimes they need that affection away from their homes. Secondly chapter 2 talks about different types of learning styles. It is important for teachers to know the learning styles of their students. Some students will need to be taught in different ways for them to have a better understanding. The three most used learning styles are auditory, visual, and tactile/kinesthetic. Some students my also learn with all three styles in some cases. Finally, I felt that addressing gender issues to be very meaningful with the way our world is today. Children know and see more then they did when I was in school. The teacher’s job is to observe the class to see if there are any gender issues. Maxim states, “Teachers can receive a lot of resources by seeking input from students, parents, and the community”. The teacher can send home an assignment to get the students to research their family’s history. I feel that this could be very useful in my classroom. I also would love to use the same idea Mr. Greenberg used in his classroom in chapter two. Mr. Greenburg decided to choose Kwanzaa as their Christmas celebration.
