When hitting the road or doing any traveling or activity in the winter, no one ever really thinks to be ready for the worst-case possible scenarios. One should always bear in mind the consequences of being caught out in the middle of a blizzard or faced with a snowy cold front with none of the right equipment or proper attire. Peter Stark’s essay “As Freezing Persons Recollect the Snow” positions the reader into the driver’s seat of a cold, unthinkable, and traumatizing long night.
Jon Spoelestra’s Ice to the Eskimos was very interesting and informative. Throughout the entire book, Spoelestra reflected upon the experiences and knowledge that he gained from working in the sports industry. One interesting aspect of the book was Spoelestra’s principle that organizations should design “an offer that consumers cannot refuse” (Spoelestra, 1997, p. 199). This was particularly interesting to me because of my interest in finance. Initially, I thought that if you make an offer too good, that you could potentially be losing out on some profit, however, after reading this book, this principle makes perfect sense.
Have you ever heard about Otzi the IceMan? Otzi the IceMan was a person that was alive over 5,000 years ago. Some things you learn in this essay is about some theories about what caused his death and his last meals. Some things that are interesting but will not be included are he has living relatives, and he had anatomical abnormalities. Now let’s get started.
The Death of Ötzi the Iceman Ötzi is the name for a mummy that was found in the European Alps in 1991 by a couple of hikers. When he was first discovered he had lots of injuries including cuts, broken bones, etc. He was originally thought to have been a hiker that had gotten lost and died, but it was later discovered that he was around 5,300 years old. He was found with many artifacts including clothes made of animal hide, shoes made of leather, grass, and plant fiber, an unfinished bow, several unfinished arrows, the remains of a backpack, a copper axe, and other similar items. This axe caused quite a stir because this axe supposedly was built thousands of years before the process of smelting copper was discovered in that area.
Iceman died from being stabbed in the back during hand to hand combat. Evidence in the text suggest that there were wounds found on Iceman's hand. This shows that he participated in hand to hand combat. Also, there was a thumb wound that had no scar, which means that the wound was fresh. There are also DNA samples from Iceman's weapons that contain DNA from four different individuals.
Archeology is the study of a human body analysis, which identifies many different characteristics detected through evidence of holism during the process of investigation of archeologists. To determine the life of the Iceman, also known as Otzi, would be to rely on his remains also found under the glacier, along with the discovery of his body, such as, a knife stone, arrows, copper axe and shoes of grass. At first glance these remains do not seem enough clues to determine anything about Otzi's life, but just studying the individual object like the copper axe shows he was probably a high dignity being in order to carry such equipment, which was used in the early stone age years for farming and hunting. Archaeologists also found arrows from Otzi's
Snow Treasure Ending: When Peter, Uncle Victor, and Jan arrived in America they had to find out where to put the gold. They were going to be arriving in Boston, Massachusetts. When they landed they needed to do something with the gold. They went out to the city before unloading to see what to do with the gold. They wanted to figure out the best way to do it.
In ice dogs by: Terry Lynn Johnson the main character, Victoria qualities of being independent and shy help to contribute to the theme that anyone can get along no matter how different and hard it is for them. According to the text, “if you hadn 't burnt it…”(113)she is saying in this quote that chris should have been more careful. this evidence Shows that she is a very independent person who wish she could have done it herself ,and this added to the theme by showing how hard this friendship is going to be. “ I never talked about dad”(179) this evidence is saying she doesn 't talk about her dad since his incident.
In the short story “What happened during the Ice Storm?” showed a theme of maturation using literary elements, specifically irony, symbolism, and the application of onomatopoeias were used to support the theme of maturation. The literary element irony is mostly used in the short story “What happened during the Ice Storm?” originally the boys wanted to hurt the pheasants like the author says, “They stood over the pheasants, turning their own heads, looking at each other, each expecting the other to do something. To pounce on a pheasant, or to yell Bang!” This quote is important because it showed the boys original intent; which was to hurt or kill the pheasants.
The ability to wipe out the entire human race with a single object that could fit in the palm of hand, that is ultimate power. Perhaps one of the most powerful symbols in Cat’s Cradle is ice-nine, a form of the water molecule that is solid at room temperature. Ice-nine has its literal meaning but it goes so much deeper on a meteoric level. Ice-nine is a form of water that is solid at room temperature and causes a chain reaction with any other form of water it touches, freezing it instantly. At the surface ice-nine is a symbol for death or an atom-bomb.
Although there are a few things I feel very strongly about I don 't think I would go to the extent of dying for the idea. If I did feel strongly about a topic I would definitely try to fight for the idea that I believed, but if death were to be brought to the table I would probably just back down unless I was 110% into the idea that my stance would do something good. In history, there have been plenty of people that died for their ideas. The first that comes to my mind would be Nathan Hale. The idea he fought for was the freedom of his country.

For my book report, I read “Thea Stilton and The Ice Treasure” by Geronimo Stilton. This book was published by Scholastic Inc. The literary style of this book is youth, mystery, and adventure. The story took place in Alaska, where the Thea Sisters were attending a conference held by an important group of people that want to help the world. I chose this book because the cover had a pretty setting.
