After many unsuccessful attempts towards recovery in AA and near fatal relapses she began researching other
Atticus from the book To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee is a character with a large list of traits. One that seems to stand out is his willingness to preserve life whenever he can. This is seen in chapter 10 when he shoots the sick dog. It is later emphasized that the dog is dangerous on pg. 128, “…he’s just as dangerous dead as alive”.
Scout feels as if she can confide in them with her secrets. Five things that we learn about Atticus in chapter ten is that he is around fifty years old, he wears glasses, Atticus is nearly blind in the left eye and he used to be named “Ol’ One Shot Finch”. According to Miss Maudie, it is a sin to kill a mockingbird because they don’t do anything to disrupt your day. All they do is make beautiful music for you to enjoy.
Despite drawbacks for his own family, Atticus was wise to defend Tom Robinson. Atticus felt it was the right thing to do. P. 75 Ch. 9 Tom Robinson would not have received a fair trial without Atticus. Atticus put his family and his reputation in danger.
Not Only For The Sake of Yourself One in every 234,068 Americans is named “courage.” Perhaps in hope of having an abundant amount of courage. However, many people that deserve the attribute of courage, fall short when it comes to examples of the meaning of the word courage itself. Atticus Finch in To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee strives to remind us that courage is also "knowing you 're licked before you begin but you begin anyway and you see it through no matter what. You rarely win, but sometimes you do."
Miss Maudie said Atticus was the deadest shot in Maycomb County. Jem was surprised. Maybe there’s more about Atticus that they do not know about. Scout and Jem think there’s so much more to Atticus. They just don’t know about it because; Atticus does not like to brag about what he does and cannot do.
By setting the novel, ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’ in Maycomb, Alabama during the 1930’s the author uses this exposition to develop the theme through atticus’ character. Throughout the novel, the author portrays Atticus throughout the story in revealing a specific theme. Atticus is shown to be morally diverse contrasted to other characters in the story. Even during the current time period of the 1930’s, in a vary racist town in Alabama, Atticus sees many things of his time unfair and unjust. Throughout the novel Atticus shows the moral of the story through his own self morlas.
To Kill A Mockingbird, written by Harper Lee, had a lot of character development. But what is the best? As displayed in the book, Atticus carries a lot of strengths and weaknesses but, throughout the story, his “true colors” shine through, and the readers discover the real him. One display of development Atticus has is when he leaves home to go see Tom Robinson (his client) at the jail, but his kids, Scout and Jem and their friend Dill, follow him to make sure he is okay and know where he’s going. Once there, Scout sees a small mob of men approaching Atticus stating how Atticus should “Get aside from the door, Mr. Finch.”
He also tells them they can shot as many blue jays as they want. When Scout talks to Miss Maudie, she tells her that her dad cannot do much and he is no fun. She says the neighborhood is made of old people. While trying to defend Atticus, Miss Maudie says that he is good at checkers and playing the Jew’s harp. While they are playing,
Despite this, Atticus has knowingly chosen this hopeless undertaking as an example to his children and the town. Over time, Scout’s mentality toward others changes from being strongly influenced by mass populous, which includes her aunt and peers, to reaching conclusions about morality on her own. This is based on Atticus’ strong assertions concerning the obvious innocence of Tom Robinson, choosing to defend him regardless of the bias of the town because he knows it is the “right thing to do,” as well as her own experiences where she drew the wrong conclusions about others based on town
Originally, Scout was questioning who Atticus was, thinking that he could not “do anything” (Lee 129), but after the incident with the rabid dog, and the one with Mrs. Dubose, Scout had completely changed how she thought of him. She thought the way he spoke to, and respected Mrs. Dubose, after all the acid that she had spit at him, was immensely brave and courageous. When he saw her “Atticus would sweep off his hat, wave gallantly to her and say, Good evening, Mrs. Dubose! You look pretty as a picture this evening. "(133).
The protagonist of a story is the main focal point and the leader. In the book To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee Atticus is the protagonist. Atticus is the main focal point, he has complex personalities and helps the other characters find their way through the story. In the beginning the reader knows so little about Atticus and as the novel goes on the reader learns more and more about Atticus as a person. Furthermore, during the trial you see a different part of Atticus and when Jem and Scout found out about Atticus being one shot finch.
Another reason Scout shows us she has absorbed Atticus’s lesson is because she is considerate enough to ask Uncle Jack not to tell Atticus the truth about why Francis and she were fighting, knowing this would hurt his feelings. Scout tells Uncle Jack that Atticus doesn't want “ anything I heard about him make me mad.” (114) In this particular situation, Scout shows us that she was able to put herself in Atticus’s shoes and view things from his perspective. Knowing that Atticus would get upset about the reason for her fight with Francis, she is considerate enough to ask her Uncle to keep the situation to himself. Scout could have decided to let Uncle Jack tell Atticus the real truth to the fight, but, instead, she stepped into Atticus’s shows
To Begin with, Atticus in To Kill a Mockingbird shows his care and compassion for Tom as he defends Tom against an entire jury who believes he is guilty because of the color of his skin. Atticus while talking to his children makes the statement, “Simply because we were licked a hundred years before we started is no reason for us not to try to win” (Mockingbird 76). Atticus is saying that just because many people have been made to believe that blacks do not have the same legal rights as whites do that they cannot win the case, yet Atticus states that he will try his hardest to try and win the case. In addition, he believes everyone’s mind is set on Tom being guilty because of the color of his skin, but he will try everything to change the minds
Atticus Finch is a strong-hearted lawyer who fights for the good of the people. He believes in equality for all and he always finds the good in people even if they insult him. One such situation is with Mrs. Dubose; she would yell insults about him to his children every time they passed by her house. Jem and Scout do not react very well to the insults but Atticus would reply with a comment like, “Good evening Mrs. Dubose! You look like a picture this evening.”
