This paper will conduct a full and detailed SWOT Analysis on the franchise known as Chick-Fil-A. Chick-Fil-A started its establishment in Georgia by Truett Cathy and has since, grown into one of the biggest fast food businesses in America. Their success can be accredited to their strengths of having friendly customer service that makes customers feel good and constant leadership that builds trust and loyalty between the company's workers. Along with Chick-Fil-A's strengths they also have a few weaknesses, two of them being their lack of service on Sundays contributing to a loss of profit and their decision to incorporate cows as their mascots causes controversy. "Our founder, Truett Cathy, made the decision to close on Sundays in 1946 when he opened his first restaurant in Hapeville, Georgia" (Who We Are, 2018). This decision could be considered wise from an ethical standpoint but, from a more profitable and economic standpoint, it is a weakness. For the company, one day closed translates to one day of lost profit. "It’s worth asking why Americans fell in love with an ad in which one farm animal begs us to kill another in its place" (Chick-Fil-A's "Creepy" Infiltration of New York City, 2018). The problem is not Chick-Fil-A's mascot being a cow but, how Chick-Fil-A chooses to advertise the cow. In reference to the preceding quote, Chick-Fil-A has unintentionally advertised a message of save one animal by eating another animal. "A family-owned American Dream come true that creates jobs, pays taxes, satisfies customers of all backgrounds, and gives back to the community"(Return of the Feckless Chick-Fil-A Phobes, 2018). The employee's hospitality and treatment to their customers has allowed the establishment to accomplish their goal of giving back to their community. Not only are they connecting with the community but, Chick-Fil-A is contributing to the community's economic growth by providing jobs. "The largest franchise in the country, it seats 140, employs 150, and along with the other NYC locations, donates an estimated 17,000 pounds of food to a local pantry for the homeless and hungry" (Return of the Feckless Chick-Fil-A Phobes, 2018).
