What is child Maltreatment?
Child maltreatment is the act of commission or omission by a parent or caregiver (clergy, coach, teacher) that results in harm of a child’s wellbeing or threat of harm towards a child. The act of commission is deliberate and intentional; harm to the child may not be the intended consequence. Acts of commission (child abuse) include the following maltreatment types: Physical, Sexual, and Psychological/emotional Abuse. The act of omission is the failure to provide for a child’s basic physical, psychological, or educational needs or to protect a child from potential harm.
