The topic I have chosen to do my research about is the obesity among children and adolescents issue. Obesity take place when an individual's weight is far away his ideal body weight (IBW). It has become a major problem in all around the world and it is the most serious public health issue and challenges of today because of the sharp increasing in the 20th century.
The essential reason of increasing the obesity is unbalanced between calories consumed and calories expended which leads to poor food choices. Poor food choices eat food with high in fat, cholesterol and carbohydrates, which leads to the accumulation of fat in the human body, but low in vitamins, proteins, minerals and other nutrients such as fast food and junk food. The huge number of obese people mean that more sick people will be having some chronic diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular and cancer. It also has stated from Public Health England show that in the UK more than six out of ten men, and more than five out of ten women are now overweight. (2016, 2012)1. In 2013 (World Health Organization)2, estimated the number of overweight children under the age of five, is estimated to be over 42 million. Close to 31 million of these are living in developing countries. The article has also states that Overweight and obese children are likely to stay obese into adulthood and more likely to develop non-communicable diseases like diabetes and cardiovascular diseases at a younger age. Income State
There is a direct link between socioeconomic and obesity, where children are living with low-and middle-income family are more likely to be obese than children who live with wealthy family. According to (Ped NSS) data, nearly one-third of 3.7 million low-income children aged two to four years surveyed were obese or overweight, and 541,000 were obese. (CDC).6
A child lives with low-and middle-income family usually has unhealthy eating habits and lifestyle. He is usually watching television, sitting at home and eating unhealthy food because of the negligence of the parents. Also organic food often sold at a high price unlike unhealthy food.
