In 1949, the communist Mao Zedong took control of China. Mao had wanted a classless society in China. However, China’s population had been at a substantial amount. China did not have enough resources for all of its people. Mao decided that he wanted everyone to have more, and more children, this had been called the Great Leap Forward. This Leap Forward had been more of a fallback for China. Still, the population in China had been growing rapidly. China’s solution had been the One Child Policy, this had cut the fertility rate in half, after a while the population had decreased.The One Child Policy had been a good idea, for it helped the environment with air, and water pollution, it gave women better chances in the working environment, crime rates had dropped, children would have better opportunities in their life, and there would not be as many resources used. …show more content…

With more affection, the child would be less likely to commit a crime, they could also have more confidence within themselves, and have a better relationship with his or her family. In school teachers and students could have a better understanding of each other, what is expected, and what they are learning. The child would be able to have a one on one with their teachers because there would not be as many kids. Research in China had shown that an only child tends to score higher on tests and they had been better at making friends rather than a child having siblings (Doc F). Overall, with the One Child Policy, the child would have better opportunities in schooling, and in their home
