Culture is the knowledge, language, values, customs and material objects that pass from generation to generation. When a person moves from one place to another place, culture shock may apply to the person who enters into a new country. This is because they have not yet got used to the environment, and because of that, they would less likely be able to respond to the setting. I, for example, have encountered a culture shock when I first came to the United States. I have suspected many different elements between the Chinese culture and the American culture, such as values and norms. In addition, these norms and values have played their roles through my first experience in the United States.

When I first settled in the United States, I had troubles in adopting its culture. This is because both cultures describe values differently. Values are collective ideas about what is right and wrong, and what is good and bad in particular culture . It sometimes gives people the criteria to evaluate people, objects, and event. Moreover, Americans tend to value individualism positively because they think individuals are encouraged to perform well throughout their life. Therefore, they more often take their tasks seriously since they are responsible to their own. Contrary to American culture, Chinese culture tend to carry their people who in the young age; parents support whatever they children need. This is because parents want their children to succeed in the future. In other word, parents value the future of their kids thoughtfully.
