Christianity vs Judaism
Christianity and Judaism, two of the most followed monotheistic religions, share many similarities such as place of origin, Hebrew Scriptures, also known as the Old testament, and ideals of the afterlife. Despite their many parallels, Christianity and Judaism have varying beliefs, practices, and teachings.
One of the major differences when it comes to Christian and Jewish beliefs is the ever contrasting ideals of the role of Jesus Christ. In Christianity, Jesus Christ serves as the “fulfillment of the Hebrew prophecies” of a coming Messiah, and the savior of the world, Christians acknowledge Jesus as the son of god who was brought to earth to save humanity from their sins. Whereas to Judaism, Jesus Christ is not the Messiah nor a divine person; he is simply seen as a good teacher, Judaism continues to believe that their Messiah is yet to come, and therefore consider God their only celestial figure. Furthermore, Judaism believes that salvation comes from good deeds and God’s will, whereas Christianity believes that salvation comes from grace as well as strong faith.

Judaism holds multiple cultural practices, especially celebrations such as the Bat Mitzvah, a ceremony which marks the ‘coming of age’ of Jewish Boys, and Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year festival. On the other hand, Christianity celebrates First Holy Communion, where young boys and girls first receive the Eucharist, considered Christ’s body and blood, and become officially considered part of the church, as well as Christmas, the day of Jesus’s birth where the three wise Kings, Caspar, Melchior, and Balthasar, gifted Jesus with gold, frankincense, and myrrh. Many of the varying practices these religions share date back to their origins, and although some practices vary per region, each religion has their own set of practices as well as rituals that have been put in place for thousands of
