Why Is Judaism Still Relevant Today

Today, there is about 14 million people who follow Judaism across the world. It is ranked the 12th most followed religion behind Christianity at number one, Islam at number two, so on. It started 3,500 years ago in Israel. Teachings of Judaism: The most important teaching in Judaism is that there is only one God. This praised God is the creator of heaven and earth. He also wants everyone to be merciful and righteous. The Jews serve this God by studying scriptures that contain commandments that include ritual practices and ethical laws. These scriptures teach that all people are created in the image of God and deserve to be treated with respect. The Jewish religion started with this man named Abraham. He is the ancestor of the Jewish people. God made an agreement with Abraham called a covenant. God promised to bless Abraham and his descendants if they worshiped and stayed faithful to God. God would remake this covenant with Abraham's son, Isaac, and Isaac's son, Jacob. Jacob was also called Israel, and so his descendants became known as the children of Israel or the Israelites. Usually, Jews believe that God will send a Messiah to save them and reconcile people with God. This Messiah will restore the land of Israel, defeat the enemies of the Jews, and bring peace to the world. The Book of Isaiah says the Messiah is a ruler who will unite the Jewish people. Many Jews still expect a Messiah to come. Other Jews talk about the Messianic Age. They believe a period of justice and peace will come about through the cooperation of all people, with the help of God. Some Jews believe that a Messiah will come only if there is already peace in the world. Others believe the Messiah will bring peace to the world. Many Jews think following the laws of the Torah will make the Messiah
