Climate Change Persuasive Essay

Imagine that one day most of the world’s major cities could be underwater because the polar ice caps in Greenland and Antarctica have all melted. Florida would be gone, most of the coasts in the United States would be underwater or flooding. The world would hit record hot temperatures, have longer summers, and shorter winters. People would die from the heat and it would be too late to change the world. The entire Earth would end up looking very identical to Venus; having scorching temperatures, and no life at all. This would all be from beginning to end of what will happen to planet Earth if something is not done about climate change. Climate change needs to be a top priority of the entire world or all of these horrible things are bound …show more content…

According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, which is a group of 1,300 independent scientific experts from around the world, “there's a more than 90 percent probability that human activities over the past 250 years have warmed our planet” (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change 5). This is saying that humans are almost definitely the major cause of climate change. Fossil fuels are burned all the time, every day, all year, and this is causing the ozone layer to deplete at an alarming rate. NASA says that the current global warming problem is the human expansion of the “greenhouse effect” which is warming that happens when the atmosphere traps in heat radiating from Earth toward space. What this is saying is that humans are causing the greenhouse effect which is warming the Earth more and more. Other problems are the emissions cars give off, using too much hair spray, and the way people treat the Earth. The Earth is explicitly showing that people are treating it wrong by increasing and decreasing temperatures dramatically and causing more rain and thunderstorms. Climate change is an issue because of how fast it is happening and what it is doing to this …show more content…

They also think that the steps we would have to take would be very costly, and there would be no reason to spend so much money on a problem that will fix itself. On an episode of CNN Crossfire, Economist Nicolas Loris said that he is not willing to spend any money to fix our climate because it would make us use less fossil fuels and we wouldn’t have enough energy and it wouldn’t be worth spending money on something that might not be a problem. Even though fixing the problem would only cost Americans about a postage stamp a day, he is more worried about his money and the fuels that are causing the problem. A lot of them even think that humans are not at all the cause of the drastic causes of climate change. A major reason most people probably don’t think it is an issue is due to the fact that they are not educated on the problem and isn’t something people would talk about in daily conversations. On a poll where Americans were asked if global warming was a serious threat to our way of life, only 36% of people yes. The way some people such as news reporters and meteorologists explain that we are having record temperatures in these days just make it seem like it is not a problem, and they talk about it very calmly even though it is very
