The text called Collaborative Consultation in the Schools consist of many chapters that provide different types of information to help in schools. Chapter 2 called “Consultation Models and Professional Practices” provided a variety of topics that teachers can implement in their classrooms to help their students. These topics were displayed in a categories and presented as Rationale for a Model, Functional Consultation Models, and Consultation Configurations and Settings. In the text it describes the definition of a model as “a model is a way of conceptualizing or approaching a problem.” A consultant model is a great tool that consultants use to help teachers implement successful strategies in their classrooms. There were two models that stood …show more content…
The Conjoint Behavioral Consultation can be defined as “an indirect service-delivery service model that builds on positive parent-teacher relationships, integrates structures data-based problem solving and collaboration, and implements evidence-based interventions across home and school settings.” In this method, teachers as well as parents act as consultees to provide many needs. These needs are “to prioritize simultaneously and jointly the need, identify resources in the child’s environment, develop and implement the most acceptable interventions, and determine the success of the intervention.” In the text it offers three phases that the Conjoint Behavioral Consultation branches into. The first phase characterizes “needs identification/needs analysis (building on strengths)” The second phase is “plan development and implementation.” The final phrase is “plan evaluation (checking and reconnecting).” These three phases are closely related to the four stages of problem-solving/behavioral consultation. I think this model would be easy to implement in the classroom because as stated it allows teachers and parents to build on the strengths of the children. This could be implemented in the classroom as well as at home by providing work for those children, so they can exceed in their learning. Also, this method helps increase the …show more content…
In the Ecobehavioral Consultation model “development is viewed as a series of mutual accommodations or transactions between the child and the environment.” Sometimes this model establishes settings that are not supported by the child, for example “state legislation on special education services.” This model also considers “the child’s cognition, motivation, prior learning, and attributions in identifying ways to help.” A plus to this model is sometimes it focuses on factors that can be changed rather than the fixed circumstances. However, I think this would be hard to implement into a classroom for several reasons. One reason is because it does not state that parents are involved in this model. I think having parents involved helps make effective decisions. I think this method would take longer to implement certain strategies because there are federal and district levels that also influence the decisions. Motivation is a key aspect of this model and sometimes children do not show motivation, which could lead to misleading results. The way settings are involved in this method could make the process for the child to get help a lot longer because every child lives in a different environment. With that being said some children’s environments are more exclusive than others. Although this model supports the children’s needs, the process does not
