I have been at IUPUC for two years now, but I have learned a lot between the two years. My first year I was more nervous of course but I learn to use my time wisely and get my priorities straight. Coming out of high school we don’t realize how important it is to use our time wisely because we get so much time in the classroom, so be sure to always limit the time you have away from academics. To be sure I was putting the most of my time into the most important things. I also learned more in depth why my education is a huge deal, especially now that I am becoming a teacher. Seriously, you may not realize it yet, but you have to become an adult! You need to treat college as if it is a job and be sure to be as professional as you can about it. Personally, I regret not doing as well as I could have my freshman year, but now I am working harder to meet my goals. Just the fact that I’ve been getting to see my profession at work was wonderful, it really brought to life my future to me. It opens your eyes in hopes to see if this is really what you want to do the rest of your life. You can start setting your goals for yourself now based on what you’re seeing other teachers do in the classroom. My advice is to get as much experience in your classrooms as possible any observed a ton. Just by getting all of that experience under your belt, it will come in handy when you find yourself standing up at the front of the classroom with 20 kids staring at you waiting see what you’re going to teach
