Albert Einstein once said, “Only a life lived for others is a life worthwhile.” My parents taught me that philosophy since I was a boy. Maybe not in the words of Einstein, but by their own style of raising me. They educated me to live serving others and to enjoy doing the small details that can make the difference in our society. That is why I chose medicine and public health as the careers that I wanted to pursue through the rest of my life. In the journey of studying both professions I discovered what was dermatology and fell in love with the specialty.
Everything started in my first day of the masters in public health, when in the introductory classes; we studied the history of James Lind and how he found the cure for scurvy. Without knowing it, I was being able to know a little of the …show more content…

The art is to develop that clinical eye that helps you to see, recognize and interpret all the key signs that will make the dermatologist able to achieve a correct diagnosis to cure the disease and heal the patient. In the words of Goethe: “What is the most difficult of all? It is what appears most simple: To see with your eyes what lies in front of your eyes.” This quote describe very well how challenging is being a dermatologist but also that challenge make the specialty very rewarding when with the expertise in the field you can help people in need.
Besides the challenging it is, I chose dermatology because I believe that is the most complete specialty in medicine. This field includes knowledge about surgery, immunology, internal medicine, pediatrics, pathology and its relationship with the clinic, and also physics, among other things. I am looking for a residency program that can train me in all of these areas and gave the necessary tools to achieve my goals. At the end, the main characters in this story that we called life are the patients and that is why I want a program that could teach the best ways to help
