While there have been multiple career crises over my life, the one place I always come back to is education. Though it is not always easy, I try to live my life in a way where I am positively impacting those around me. Education is my best chance to do that in my life. Having observed how positive role models impacted me throughout my entire education, I can only hope to have a similar impact on students in the future. Although I am aware the career path is not an easy profession, there is truly nothing else I would be able to seriously consider.
I want to be an educator because of the teachers in my life who encouraged me to reach my greatest potential. In these teachers I saw an unrelenting desire to make every student better. To contrast, I have had teachers who made me feel like I was not worth the effort to help steer me down the right path. There was a clear favoritism, and a desire to help those who were in their good graces in a much more involved way. Working as a Teaching Assistant at UNH, I have been able to see the joy that it brings me to help a student with anything they are struggling with. There were many students who came to me throughout the semester, down about a poor grade on an exam and did not know how improve. Being able to help these students see where they were able to grow, was incredibly satisfying. Needing to cater my approach to the needs of each individual was formative for me, and thankfully made a difference for them as well.
