It is a pleasure to submit my application for the position of Vice Provost and Dean (VP&D) of the College of Engineering and Computing (CEC) at the Missouri University of Science & Technology. This is an exciting and challenging position with opportunities to support and advance education and research programs in engineering and computing, promote innovation, make the college a catalyst for economic development and broaden participation in engineering. I am enthusiastically motivated to pursue this opportunity because, I believe, my broad academic and administrative experience; which includes leadership positions in academia, government, and professional organizations; has provided me with the necessary background, experience and drive to effectively serve this top university and enhance and promote CEC.
My academic career started in 1988 when I joined Arizona State University as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering, where I became Associate Professor in 1993 and Professor in 1998. ECCS supports research in advanced scientific and technological areas of critical importance to U.S. industry, economy and national defense. As Director, my responsibilities included developing strategic directions for the division, implementing its plans, and managing its operations. In this role, I supervised twelve Program Directors organized into three clusters. ECCS’ budget in 2016 was about $115 million.
