Throughout my entire life my two biggest interests have been sports and science. As a child I would spend my days playing sports, or whenever my team was playing I would be watching them on television. Unfortunately the football and basketball seasons only last so long, but whenever there were no games on I would be watching the discovery channel and learning about our planet and the creatures who live on it. As I grew older my interests mainly focused on sports because most of my time outside of school was spent practicing for my teams. However inside of school my favorite class was science whether it was biology, chemistry, or physics. As I went through high school years gave me a lot of time to think what I want to do in my life and how, …show more content…
The first year I made the varsity football team my junior year was when my team lost every game in the season. While we had our faults as a football team, it was injuries that plagued our team. It seemed as though every week we heard ‘torn ACL’ or ‘torn shoulder labrum’ and somebody was out for the season. I was also the victim of the ‘injury virus’ that was going around. During one of our toughest tackling drills I got hit form the side, and this caused my knee to bend unusually. I knew I was in trouble when I tried to stand up and fell right to the ground because I could not put any weight on my knee. When I got to the training room my athletic trainer took a look at my knee which was now the size of a grapefruit. After icing my knee she sent me to my team doctor, who is an orthopedic surgeon. After looking at my knee and observing the x-rays he concluded that I had a knee contusion (bone bruise) which luckily did not require surgery. However my team doctor helped me so that I could get back to playing my favorite sport. This is why I want to become an orthopedic surgeon so that I can help young athletes succeed the way my doctor helped me. I want to one day help athletes with injuries get back to playing their sport and make sure a bad injury is only a mild …show more content…
One aspect that I admire about the doctors of my family is their keen sense of wisdom. My grandfather, for example, was a cardiologist for many years and while he was successful as a doctor he also seemed to know so much about so many subjects. I remember when I was eight, and we were on a nature trail in my neighborhood he taught me all about Lewis and Clark’s exhibition to find the northwest passage. I did not think much about it then but now I look back and realize how wise he really was because the path to becoming a doctor is paved with learning so much about so many topics ranging from history to medicine. I also look back at his death when I was in middle school and realize I want to be just like him. I want to one day give my children and grandchildren these little stories that will come back to them one day. In addition to this I want to develop the wisdom that can only come from many years of education and hard work so I can inspire others the way my grandfather inspired
