In India, where I was born and brought up, doctors are revered and looked upon with utmost respect. I aspired to be a doctor from a very early age. My passion only grew while seeing the important contributions physicians make in society, such as their ability to bring positive change to the health system, not only with medicines but with affection and care towards the patient. When the time came to decide my career path, becoming a doctor had remained the natural choice and the dream worthy of pursuit.

After high school, while trying for admission into medical school in India, I explored other options including attending medical school in China. I was fortunate enough to receive admission from one of the top 3 universities in China and immediately grabbed the opportunity working towards achieving my dream. The climate, culture and life style were very different from India. My commitment to the medical field kept me going and forced me out of my comfort zone, making me more adjustable and able to adapt to any situation and working environment. During my stay in China, I got to embrace different cultures, developed cross cultural communication skills, which have helped me to become a global citizen in this rapidly growing world of ours. …show more content…

What fascinated me most were my Internal Medicine rotations. I saw patients coming in looking for a cure for various problems and illnesses. The idea of being able to investigate their signs and symptoms and finding the etiology seemed like solving an intricate puzzle, where we try to gather the pieces of the puzzle to complete the picture by gathering data, implementing the learned lessons, generating differential diagnosis, and putting in the treatment plan.
