In many aspects, it can be difficult pursuing a career in the Arts. Whether that is Visual Arts, Performing Arts, or any art form of the sort, there is only a chance you may greatly succeed. Extreme ambition and passion is what is needed to fulfill a lasting career. That is what I am hoping this scholarship will do for me. Growing up, every parent wants their child to be a doctor, firefighter, the usual “good paying” jobs. I was one of those kids who subscribed to that way of thinking; I wanted to be a doctor. I would pretend to do check ups on my grandparents until one day, I saw my grandpa’s drawings. They were merely doodles, but the fluidness of his lines made this more appealing to me. I began those classes in Elementary school and they lasted through high school. While in high school, I learned of a program called YAYA. It was said that they offered free after school art classes. I initially thought nothing of it because I had art in school. Unfortunately, I was wrong; This program was greater than any in-school art class. From these classes in conjunction with my own practice, I learned valuable tools that would be applicable to a career in Art. YAYA taught me the value of having value, which meant learning to sell what I am worth.
