Movers and Shakers The educational system is constantly making changes and advancements in order for teachers to educate students and students to receive the best education they can. This has not been done by just one individual or one particular group; it has taken a multitude of individuals. The movers and shakers of the American Educational System has brought about changes in education over the past centuries. These people and events have brought about drastic changes in education, with some people viewing these changes as having a positive or negative affect the educational system. While on the State Board of Education, Mann wrote reports to the legislature about current educational practices and conditions, and also made recommendations for improvements that could be done. Mann worked to increase the public support and awareness for problems facing education such as unsanitary facilities, substandard materials, and the training of teachers (Webb, Metha, & Jordan, 2012). His efforts lead to new textbooks and equipment, increase in teachers’ salaries, and professional training for teachers. Mann established three normal schools, that were teacher training institutions, to help provided teachers with professional training. His contributions to education helped increased the quality of education that was provided to students, and help prepare teachers to enter the teaching profession. Board of Education provide major advancements to education students of color. Although the decision did not succeed in fully desegregating public education in the United States, it put of schools in a position to help provide students of color or different ethnic backgrounds better means to a quality education. Students in segregated black schools often lagged far behind in social and academic outcomes, than students attending white segregated schools (Hilbert, 2017). The desegregation of public school help to bring increase academic achievement, and students learning how to work and get along with each other.
