A Community Developer (CD) is a solid asset to Residence as they are mentors who provide resources for students and Resident Life Student Staff (RLSS). To add on, a CD is a resource that facilitates engagement with students/ RLSS to build positive relationships in Residence. CDs will also foster a sense of community by implementing events that follow a curriculum to benefit students in their learning about personal development, strengthening Indigenous awareness, strengthening Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI), and community engagement. A CD will also help RLSS achieve these learning goals by hosting office hours to mentor them on rights and responsibilities, giving guidance on CUportfolio, organizing/creating posters, etc. Thus, CDs are …show more content…
I aspire to be a CD because of my passion for creating a community for students and RLSS members. My involvement in being a Returner has been a rewarding experience because I presented as a positive role model and a leader for students and my team. However, I want to take on more challenges in RLS to continue exercising my skills in establishing meaningful relationships, and I want to keep improving/embodying Carleton’s learning goals. I want to continue strengthening my skills in being a leader as it helped me create a positive team dynamic where I am open to hearing new ideas, taking on different perspectives to solve challenges, and being a positive motivator. These were the skills I could express during my time as a Returner when my team and I did not have a manager. So, the Returner and I took on extra duties by running the Monday Night Meetings. I had to adapt to these changes and find spare time to accommodate my team members on conflicts they were experiencing, such as conflicts with their co-workers. It was also when I became a more decisive leader to discuss with the Returners about planning the curriculum for Monday Night Meetings which helped us stay organized and be more
