I am currently studying A levels at Sixth Form, having achieved high grades at GCSE level; I have chosen Maths, Physics and Computer Science as these subjects will provide the fundamental learning required for an apprenticeship and hopefully a degree within Civil Engineering. I have a mature outlook and made an informed choice to remain within Education post-GCSE as there were no available apprenticeships at that time which excited me in the way this opportunity does. I demonstrate efficacy in organisational skills, prioritising and organising my studies on a daily basis, and adhere to deadlines as appropriate. The sessions primarily focus upon three key areas which include mental strategies, timetables and key skills. The key skills section are the most complex and includes the 'problem solving' element of Maths. I ensure that I am suitably prepared for each session, and ensure that I remain alert to any pupils who are struggling; I would then discuss this privately and sensitively, and collaboratively agree a solution-focused action plan involving additional support by the Maths teacher. I believe that volunteering as a Maths mentor demonstrates several strengths including strong leadership and effective role-modelling, as well as a willingness to share my expertise and knowledge and encourage others to become the best they can be.
