This essay aims to compare and contrast follower-ship and servant leadership. Follower-ship and servant leadership are two philosophies known throughout time about leadership. Even though they both serve as a perspective toward leadership, they are different in small things. Throughout the essay, I'll compare and contrast some components of follower-ship and servant leadership.
First, follower-ship and servant leadership are two types of theories that approach leadership. Both serve as a type of leadership, but it is entirely different—follower-ship is defined as being willing to accept guidance and direction from a leader. What makes them want to follow there? Leader? In a follower-ship, the relationship between leader and followers is based on the characteristic of the rank order. A great example of a follower-ship is the U.S. military. Lower enlisted from private up to specialist follow the command from junior NCOs (Non-Commissioned Officers), the junior NCOs take orders from senior NCOs, and senior NCOs take orders from their commander. The same thing for the commander; they take orders of action from higher up. This type of relationship made the followers more on the passive side of the relationship since, in this type of leadership, the followers are taking command by their leaders and executing it. In servant leadership, the relationship is more egalitarian. In other words, everyone is treated equally, no matter who they are. Leaders actively engage with their followers and help them succeed or reach their maximum potential. The followers are more toward the playful side of this type of
