The purpose of this essay is to compare and contrast followership leadership and servant leadership. This essay will consist of what followership and servant leadership is and how they serve a purpose in the military. In 1970, “A man named Robert K. Greenleaf created a way that the military looks and practices leadership in a different light” (1) (B112- R.b). That term is servant leadership meaning having a strong feeling to serve others by helping develop them or taking charge. Servant leaders are more of the ones that have a better understanding of awareness, equality and,are good at persuading. Versus followership is the leader that steps back and listens to the problems in a variety of critical thinking styles. An example would be an NCO taking the lead on teaching lower enlisted Soldiers to properly do squad movements. In contrast, to a followership leader that takes orders from a higher commanding person to delegate lower enlisted personnel to learn squad movements by using problem solving and teamwork. They are the ones that is not necessarily there to take charge. Although both types of leaderships may be different, they host similarities being, both types of leaderships improve the organization (the Army) because they work towards a common goal, which is to always complete the mission. It allows leaders to serve others in diverse ways. It allows trust to build and a sense of pride for both
