Both the Truman and Carter Doctrine were created in an effort to protect American freedom while also achieving their own alternative motives. There is a similar outline between both doctrines. Both have a surface explanation of why they need the approval of the congress for (money or military support) while having an underlying explanation to their decisions like trying to obtain oil or gain more power. Due to the end of WWII America and Russia won making them the superior countries. However, the Russians and Americans fell on opposite sides of the political spectrum where Russians were pro-communists and Americans were pro-capitalists. This wasn't a problem until the U.S became the most dominant superpower. As the Americans began spreading their influence to neighboring countries the Soviet Union (Russians) wanted to do the same and spread their communist ways as well. The United States effort to contain communism and stop the Soviet Union from dominating was one of their main objectives. In an effort to protect the American economy, the Americans organized military coups which allowed the overthrow the Prime Minister of Iran- Mohammed Mossadegh who was extremely lenient towards communism. The Americans number one fear at the time was the spread of communism. The Iranian replaced their former president with a radical Islamic dictator, who cooperated with the American people and agreed to provide them with oil. Because the Americans were greatly benefiting from Iran they seemed Ok with the chaos that was occurring in that region. It was clearly evident that the current Iranian president went against the “American Ideal” of a leader. However, since the U.S was getting what it wants it didn't matter what happened in the
