United States vs. The Soviet Union
The Korean War, the Marshall Plan, and the competition between the United States of America and the Soviets all served, in the long run, to help the U.S. gain international influence rather than lose it. However, in the process of stepping in, the U.S. did lose a lot of resources, money, and men, but they did it to help their allies and it ended up helping them too. The U.S. stepped in the “wars” as proxies to defend the anti communist belief. The United States gained international influence due to its involvement in proxy conflicts in the Cold War.

The Korean War began when 75,000 North Korean soldiers crossed the 38th Parallel in 1950 which commenced the Korean War. American troops entered the war on South Korea’s behalf and as far as they were concerned, the war was against international communism. American officials then decided to try to create an armistice with the North Koreans to keep the situation from getting worse. There were shortages of food and fuel that left Europe with no other option than to look to the communists for help. Truman’s priorities were to stop the spread of communism, and to build up Western European nations so that they were strong enough to defend themselves. After a while, Congress agreed to give Truman 400 million dollars to aid to Greece and Turkey. He put in motion an effort to reorganize the Greek army and save the Greek economy. The Soviet Union, at that time, was aiding Greek rebels, but because Truman had begun to fix Greece, the Soviets stopped helping the Greek rebels. In France and Italy, there were also food and fuel shortages and Tuberculosis was breaking out. Truman knew something had to be done. He decided to launch the Marshall Plan to help Western Europe industrialization and its economy. It was also reassurance that communism wouldn’t spread all over
