War is not a new term when it comes to the American history. America has participated directly and indirectly in wars in three of the last centuries, this includes the 18th century American Revolutionary War, the 19th Century Civil War (1861-1865) and probably the most famous war the 20th Century World War 1 and World War 2. Of all their wars, none has left such a huge mark in American History like World War 2. The war brought both its positives and negatives. At the start of the war the American woman’s life centered on the farm and family, they were mainly staying at home wives who would take care of the children and family at large. Although their roles varied in different regions they all shared some common denominators: they did not engage in any economic work, they could not join the army and were socially not allowed to hold jobs which were at the time considered to be only men could do. However, the war changed this and drastically so. As the war started, many men were sent off to war and this left a deficit in manpower in the industries and military which were essential in supporting the war. This lead to women taking up several non-combative roles such as telegraphers, mechanics, and drivers, they were even allowed to work in highly mechanized industries which were primarily manly. The women excelled in these duties such that they started to be more than housewives but as equals as they posed as competition to the working male population (Watkins, Thayer1930). It's military spending during the war allowed it to develop advanced weaponry. This development allowed for the United States to have a very huge and powerful arsenal which gave it a huge military superiority over all other nations in the world. The development and deployment of the first atomic bomb with such success were an indication that the United States was not just any other country on the military front. Following the war, the United States has invested huge chunks of its budget in the development and research in military arms (Sheldon Richman2017).
In conclusion, the Second World War was indeed the “last good war” that the Americans have participated in. The United States did not suffer as great casualties and physical destruction as well as economic blunder like most other countries that took part in the war. Instead, is emerged as a super power and a better America than before. The benefits of the war by far out weight the negatives. This is however not to encourage or promote the harrowing experiences and events that the war inflicted. I dare to say that the Second World War is probably the most defining times of the United
