High school is something almost all of us get to experience. I have been lucky enough to have had many inspiring teachers. These teachers have taught me life lessons that I would not have known if I had not taken their class. There were two teacher in particular that had a large influence on my perspective on school and life. These teachers are Mrs. Petti and Mr. Cheatham of Pickens High School.
I think it is important for teachers to establish relationships with their students; not only for teachers to learn about their students but also for the students to learn about their teacher. It is also important for there to be a real world connection within the classroom. I have found classes most beneficial when the teachers have branched out from the class subject. There are many things that make a teacher “good”, but it is rare to find a teacher who will make a lasting impression on their students. Now days with classrooms so large and with the growing amount of required curriculum for teachers to teach, it is understandable for teachers to lose that connection with their students. Petti is everyone's favorite teacher. Even those who have not had her class will tell you she is a great teacher and person. In class she is someone who knows how to communicate with the students, but still manages to receive respect. In class she allows herself to be open with the students and allows the students to be open with her. Mrs. Petti cares about her students unlike any other teacher I have had. She once told my class her life story, and I think a lot of the class was able to relate. She showed us that no matter where we started, we could always make something of ourselves, and to never let someone tell us we can not be what we desire to be or do.
