Simply put, the 1912 election was considered a three war contest because the Republican Party split in half which resulted in three major political parties, democratic, republican, and progressive, attempting to put their candidate in office. Teddy Roosevelt, 26th president, personally chose William Taft to be his successor in the 1912 presidential race, however, Roosevelt felt that Taft betrayed his progressive ideals and entered the race himself. They both seemed to share the commitment to enacting major social reform. One could say that one of President Roosevelts’ greatest accomplishments was that of the National Park Service. While Wilson pushed through other policies restricting big business, both Presidents made big businesses angry with their push for social reform.
The Bull Moose Party, was a former political party in the United States, founded by Theodore Roosevelt during the presidential campaign of 1912. The Bull Moose Party was formed because Theodore Roosevelt was beaten in the Republican primary by Taft yet still wanted to run for president. Right around this time, the political party called for direct election of U.S. senators, women's voting rights, reduction of tariffs, and many social reforms. Roosevelt, who served as the 26th president of the United States from 1901 to 1909, began his campaign as the party's presidential candidate. A key point of his platform is "Square Deal", Roosevelt's concept of a fair business competition based on society and the added benefits to Americans who need it.

During the Progressive-Era, 1890-1920, Presidents Roosevelt and Wilson played major roles in making this time period a success (Schultz, 2014). Each wanted the United States to be more aggressive when it came to international affairs. They felt being timid was not the way to accomplish this goal; however, instead, they set out to increase our military force extensively. President Roosevelt is the first major player accomplished this goal merely 3 years prior to the end of his presidency. By 1906 the U.S. had the 3rd largest military in the world.
This is what set this election apart from others. Theodore Roosevelt was determined to be a candidate, despite William Taft winning the Republican nominee, and so he created his own Republican based party, known as the “Bull Moose Party.” Another name for this party is the Progressive Party. Since Taft had his Republican Party also, the Republican votes were split between the two.

How did Theodore Roosevelt both promote and hinder Progressive ideologies in America? Theodore Roosevelt promoted progressive ideals through Consumer protection acts and the creation of the FDA. Through creating these acts he promoted progressive ideals by making things safer for consumers and for factory workers. Roosevelt hindered and went against progressive ideas by turning the white house into his own personal Bully Pulpit.
The age of progrevssisim brought a lot of solutions to social problems through woman’s clubs, settlement houses, and political and cultural responses industrializations status. Two figures from this movement were Theodore Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson, each of which had their own stance on problems. They had to deal with many social problems both sharing similar and different stances towards those problems. Roosevelt , a man with a huge amount of courage, charisma, but was intolerant of racism and was known to the people as a hero while Wilson was a educated man who wanted to implement government control on people lives to help it make it easier on them.
Historians have often times made note of both Theodore Roosevelt’s and Woodrow Wilson’s high moral compass pertaining to world issues. Both leaders however innately stood on different sides of the moral arena. Woodrow Wilson was seen and portrayed as a peace-centered leader and an idealist. Woodrow Wilson and Theodore Roosevelt did not agree on everything they had very different views when it came to things such as their ideals on foreign policy, their stance on business Roosevelt felt that large businesses increased efficiency and brought productivity. Wilson however believed in fair competition and did not agree with large business gaining monopolies.
The Progressive Party or the Bull Moose Party campaigned as much as thirty-eight states, which was more than any of the other opponents. There was many competition with the candidates’ and their opponents. One way Teddy campaigned was by addressing speeches to gain voter’s interest. Earlier on the day, before his speech, Roosevelt came to a stop in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He wore his Army coat and in his pocket, he carried his 50 page speech, which was folded double to fit his inside pocket.
During the years of the Progressive era and the New Deal period, the United States saw a lot of intervention by the government, specifically focused on the working and living conditions of those in poverty. Both periods were focused in helping the everyday man get what he needs and had primarily no focus on the social, economic, and political rights for African-Americans. Differences include the fact that Progressive focus concerning the work field was more about fixing the conditions for everyone; men, women, and children alike, but the New Deal’s focus was more on getting men back in work. The success of the programs and policies seemed to coincide with the feeling of the period. The Progressive era had successful outcomes with ideas and reforms, matching the upbeat, fast-moving feeling of the time.

Everyone hopes that the President is able to get them out of that situation. Two great Presidents were Franklin D. Roosevelt and Harry S. Truman. Even though they served during the same time period, they were very different presidents. Roosevelt and Truman had different childhoods, different education levels, and Truman even joined the military before he was president.
