I chose to compare software engineer and computer engineer for this assignment. They are both in the engineering field and share some similarities and differences.

Software engineers are responsible for all stages of developing a software program, from researching to implementing. They may also be responsible for support of the program and making the instruction manual. It is one of the fastest growing sectors in the job market, with an expected increase of 17% of job growth from 2014-2024. Having a degree in software engineer can offer many opportunities, students can become computer programmers, web developers, and many more.

Due to this, most people choose to attend university if they want to go into the programming field.
In addition, after thorough research, most junior jobs require 2 years of experience, so co-op or part time job during university can be extremely helpful with finding a job after graduation. The University of Waterloo offers 24 months of paid co-op experience, and it is one of the largest co-op programs in Canada. Some co-op job positions include programmer/analyst, software developer, and IT assistant. The average pay for a co-op position in term 6 for computer science is $30.20 according to the University of Waterloo website.
In Canada, the leading schools that offer computer science and software engineer degrees are UBC and University of Waterloo. In University of Waterloo, if one choose to pursue the computer science degree, the first year courses include two calculus courses, two algebra courses, and two courses on introduction to computer science and algorithm design. Other courses can be chosen after consulting the suggested academic plans. As for software engineer, the first year courses include most of the ones in computer science, with the addition of a few physics courses, such as physics of electric engineering and courses about electrical circuits. The difference between these two degrees there is that computer science is more math based and software engineer is more science
