As a new generation retires, it is inevitable that a new one will take over. The millennial generation has started to take the reins from past generations. The number of millennials in the workforce is relatively high, as baby boomers and traditionalists retire. However, with the presence of three or more generations working together, it is no surprise that there are miscommunications. The way that millennials express themselves is completely different from the silent generation. Every generation has their own values and beliefs that set them apart from one another. The baby boomers were 40% of the population, after World War II. This generation has a more open communication than the previous generation, they allow younger generations to participate and include their ideas (Johnson & Wilson 2018). They communicate in a very quick to the point and concise way. This generation does use some technology to communicate like email, but also believes that there should be a balance between face-to-face interactions and digital messages (Strilko & Widman 2014). Millennials are a larger generation than Baby Boomers and are believed to have an equal impact on their society and workplace (Strilko & Widman 2014). Millennials are very tech savvy, and often lack the confidence of communicating face-to-face. They find it hard talking to co-workers in person and would rather stay behind a screen. This is a challenge for Millennials in the work place, as they are often employees of those from older generations, that prefer face-to-face communication. Although Generation Zers are not as represented they are slowly making their way, as they enter the workforce. This generation is similar to Millennials when it comes to communication within a workplace. Both Generations are fond of hiding behind a screen, they prefer video conferencing rather that a meeting in person (Step Aside). Gen Zers are able to multitask and like to communicate using images (Step Aside). As Millennials and Gen Zers enter the workforce, they are forced to go out of their comfort zone of hiding behind a screen. Co-workers from other generations continue to lack the understanding of the young generations' technology obsession and
