On Tuesday October 17, 2017 at 12:48pm, I researched the two-different online Philly news outlets; Billy Penn News and PhillyVoice News. Since, both news outlets serve the same purpose, which is to provide information to their audience, there holds some differences between the two. Such as, the structure of the website, style, audience members and much more. Therefore, it is prominent that both websites are carefully analyzed. After, reviewing both websites thoroughly, there seems to be many differences in regard to the content and style of the two sites. PhillyVoice’s website uses bright colors to color coordinate their information. For example, they use the color red to signify the news section, and they use the color blue to signify the heath section. Their layout is pretty simple and easy to navigate. Nevertheless, they place loads of information on their first page. They do this by putting the top stories of each section on the first page. Therefore, their viewers have a glimpse of the top stories in all the categorizes simultaneously. For example, in the art category, John Williams will join the Philadelphia Orchestra in a concert. In the news department, John McCain won the Liberty Medal, and so forth. A special feature that the PhillyVoice produce on their website, is their breaking news section. They have a special area on the shoulder of the website, where new and breaking information is posted immediately. On Thursday, October 19th, the Billy Penn website, post stories that follow the prominent people, controversy, relevance, human interest and proximity criteria. The prominent people criteria is used when they discussed when Chris Long, the Eagles’ defensive end, promises to donate his paycheck that he earned for playing football to organizations that allow youth to have an easier access to a decent education. The controversy criteria are used in the story about the city of Philadelphia deciding to install public bathrooms and showers around the city. This causes controversy, because many people believe this is a bad idea and others see this as a brilliant idea. The relevance and proximity criteria is used often. These criteria deal with life around Philadelphia. For example, in recent news, two Philly cops ignored to handle a rape case properly. The disregarded the protocols that force them to treat the assault victim with the proper care she is entitled to have. This story, satisfies these criteria because it happened in the city of Philadelphia, and it also has an effect on the people in these neighborhoods.
