I. Since childhood, I love to illustrate stories that I one day hoped to show an audience, and becoming a concept artist fits those interests.
A. In elementary school, I was always drawing elaborate stories to entertain my peers.
1. Being labeled the “artistic” student, my friends and family encouraged me to do what I loved.
B. After discovering my interest in art, upon further research I discovered the profession of a concept artist.
1. According to Selby (2015), “The job of the [concept] artist is to design and construct environments for animated sequences to occur in…” (Layout and Scenes section, para. 1).

While it is important to establish a strong foundation in art through pen and paper, to create industry-level pieces I need to translate my work into 3d.
1. An Industry professional during an interview with Backstage stated, “you need some sort of technological background in regards to taking your sketches and implementing them into a 3D program that then allows you to work with production and vendors” (Mink, 2021, para. 7).
B. Summer Internships allow me to gain experience in the field and learn from industry professionals.
1. Nickelodeon highlights the invaluable skills and experiences you can get from internships, “Forging strong working relationships with studio executives, creatives, and artists, honing your skills alongside incredible studio talent, working on projects that you are passionate about” (Nickelodeon Animation Studio, n.d.).
a. Gaining experience, learning from professionals, and creating valuable connections help make my resume more appealing to job recruiters.
Transition: Now that I have stated how I plan to break into the industry, I will share what types of projects I will work on as a concept artist.
