As the teacher, it will be my responsibility to provide clear and well-understood rules that apply to the entire class. In a Kindergarten class, many students do not understand all of the rules that apply to the class because they have never had to be involved in a structured environment. This is why Kindergarten teachers must establish easily understood rules at the beginning of the school year and reinforce them daily. As stated in the classroom modules, having fewer rules helps students be clear on the teacher’s expectations (EDPY 401 Instructional Team, 2015). It is also good for the teacher to provide a reason of why these rules are important so the students will understand the logical reasoning of rules. Willard could possibly have an undiagnosed behavior disorder or some type of attention deficit disorder. It is important for the teacher to punish all students equally. When Willard starts to ask to play outside constantly, wonders around the room, or unexpectedly walks out of class, the teacher should first reinforce their rules to make sure the student understands. If the minor infractions continue to happen, the teacher can first use to help keep Willard on task. When Willard repeatedly asks if it is time for recess, I could cue him to continue working and let him know that we are focusing on class work and he needs to give his full attention. If the behavior continues to happen after cueing, the teacher can pull the student aside during free time and privately discuss the misbehavior. Pulling the student aside privately lets the student and teacher reach a respectful environment in the classroom. The student should not be embarrassed in front of the class because this could cause even more bad behavior. After trying these two
