Controversial Issues During The Civil Rights Movement

Rosa parks once said "you must never be fearful about what you are doing when it is right. ” This held a great deal of weight in this movement to not be afraid of what people are gonna say or do just stand up and speak. During the civil right movement certain people stood up for what they knew to be right. Judgment was passed on many people including the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court dealt with many controversial issues during the civil rights movement: Fred Scott v. Stanford, Plessy v. Ferguson, and Loving v. Virginia.

Most people are ignorant to racism. During the civil rights movement blacks everywhere that where once considered free where still being segregated by the Supreme Court systems. In the court cases dread Scott V. Sanford a man was thrown back into slavery.The court said, "he was his master's property (Dred Scott v. John F.A. Sanford)". The court systems everywhere still had segregation in them. People everywhere began to protest and stand up for what was right. This case was a stepping stone to get where this country needed to be. The people started to realize this way of life wasn't correct at all. Most didn't like that people where starting to stand up for themselves but it was necessary. Ferguson was another case during the time period of the civil rights movement. This was a huge stop to the end of segregation. Louisiana passed a law saying that there need to be segregation between blacks and whites. Justice John Marshall Harlan Said, "stimulate aggressions, more or less brutal, upon the admitted rights of colored citizens(Plessy vs. Ferguson).”They thought it was better for everyone. They thought wrong. People didn't like this act and definitely didn't agree with it. However they didn't even come close to putting a end to people standing up for themselves.
