Fashion has always been a part of my life and has always been fascinating to me through the influences around me—from my academic interests, to my career ambitions and my experiences, that have impacted me to wanting to be in visual merchandising. Attending Texas State University would help shape my dreams. From an early age, I have always had a creative intellect and a love for fashion. Starting high school I was involved in a sewing course and technical theater, this was my start in fashion. Outside, of school I started working at K-Mart; this job was my first experience working in retail. After graduating high school, I took a job at Ashley Furniture as a manager I started taking classes at Austin Community College, where I took more business and marketing classes. I left Ashley Furniture and graduated Austin Community College with my certification in marketing. I chose to enroll in cosmetology school. Once I started cosmetology school, I really enjoyed everything. At the same time, I felt as though something was lacking. During a week where we concentrated on studying hair related to fashion, I realized cosmetology school was not what I was supposed to be doing with my life and chose to leave. Once I left cosmetology school, I returned to Austin Community College. I knew right away that I had made the right decision to go back. From the courses I have been involved in, such as Fashion image and Fashion trends have really made me want be a visual merchandiser and has opened my eyes to the trends and design aspects of being a merchandiser. As well at ACC I have been invited to attend the University of Texas student fashion shows for the last two years and Austin Fashion Week and enjoyed seeing peoples visions come to life through the creative process in exploring different areas of
