Lewis is trying to make the audience feel like they have a mission, one that will take them as a community to accomplish. Lewis purposely first leads them with sadness, telling the audience stories of friends and family who face the hardships of the government, but, starts telling them that they are not alone, telling them that they need to work, and finally, telling them that they will succeed. By doing this, he starts with the truth, but ends by motivating the audience of how it isn’t the end.
How does one change a law unjust? How does one let the government realize a law has infringed on the basic rights of man? For Henry David Thoreau, it was through the act of civil disobedience. With his condemnation of the Mexican-American War and his firmly rooted abolitionist views, Thoreau quickly grew disdainful with the American government and began his nonviolent resistance in the year 1842 by refusing to pay poll taxes. During his one night of imprisonment 4 years later, he wrote his essay, “Resistance to Civil Government”, later entitled “Civil Disobedience” which would go on become the inspiration for the social movements of Mahatma Gandhi and
I look forward to helping students to develop a drive for personal academic excellence and a rich perspective on the world around them as they explore links between the individual, society, and the natural world. The potential of secondary geography is to stimulate an interest in the wider world through learning knowledge, both in and beyond the classroom, and acquiring geographical and transferable skills to last a lifetime. I am currently studying a broad-based geography degree ranging from economic to cultural geography, but also including staples of classroom geography including development, coastal processes and volcanology. My subject knowledge is strong and wide-ranging and aligned to both current GCSE and A-Level specifications and
After completing my B.S in Community Human Services at Empire State College, I felt extremely fulfilled in my accomplishment. I felt like I did accomplish my ultimate goal which was becoming qualified to work with Juveniles in the system to help make a difference in their lives. I thought I could have been a unique asset to the system where I can be of assistance in problem solving alongside my affiliates and bosses working together in unison to accomplish the same goal, which is to be effective administrators to foster growth and productivity in the lives of the youths. However, I quickly learn or come to a realization that our children of tomorrow need more than just an attentive ear, a shoulder to lean on, and an empathetic individual. In

Doctor of Social Work Program Application Personal Statement Ashley Newberry LCSW, LISW As I child, I was introduced to the human service field in a unique way. For as long as I can remember, my mother has had a human service profession and provided me with daily examples of how to help others. One of my earliest memories is riding out a hurricane while we stayed in the adult group home where my mother worked, assisting with safety measures for residents and providing comfort to her community. My mother worked in multiple residential programs throughout my life, specializing her work with individuals with developmental and physical disabilities.
I became a school counselor simply because I wanted to live a life of meaning and be a force for good in the world. Throughout life, having real and honest conversations that support growth, positive change, and owning responsibility are critical to self-actualization. I want to empower my students to give their best effort in all areas of life, not just their education. I believe that simple encouragement in this type of environment is the key to positive change, and I wanted to dedicate my professional life to reflect that belief. I whole-heartly believe in the holistic approached to a balanced and fulfilling life and being a school counselor is a unique career that fulfills this value.
My educational goal to pursue a Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with a specialization in Trauma and Crisis Counseling is a result of my personal life experiences and my admiration for those who work in this field, dedicated to helping those who may feel dragged down by toxic cycles and heavy memories, like myself once did, to create a life filled with meaning. As a Sociology major in my undergraduate career, I’ve always been interested in other people and why they operate the way that they do. It wasn’t long after earning my bachelors that I came to the belief that my past experiences and mental health journey could become my superpower to help others, and that if I wish for society to collectively feel better, then the focus on
I learned how to respond to medical emergency while working on the First-Aid merit badge in Boy Scouts. This sparked my interest in learning about medicine. However, the most influential moment of my life was my grandfather’s diagnosis of Alzheimer’s. Over the years the disease has progressed rapidly, in spite of his treatment with the latest medications. Sometimes the emotional and naïve side of me gets mad that even after decades of research in this field, scientists still don’t fully understand the disease’s mechanism to halt the degeneration.
I chose the field of Therapy and narrowed it down to Child Psychologist. As a Child Psychologist, I work with children to help them get through mental health challenges. I participated in many clubs in school for peer mediation, problem solver, As well as I was in counseling, due to a bullying issue in elementary and middle school. As I got to middle school, I learned that I wanted to be a school counselor, reason being my school counselor(s) helped me throughout my school years.
My educational and career goals revolve around pursuing a major in neuroscience and a minor in bioethics, with the ultimate objective of becoming a psychiatrist. The field of neuroscience has always fascinated me due to its intricate exploration of the human brain and its impact on behavior, cognition, and mental health. By combining this knowledge with a background in bioethics, I aim to develop a comprehensive understanding of the ethical considerations and dilemmas that arise in the field of psychiatry. Neuroscience, as a multidisciplinary field, encompasses various branches of science, including biology, chemistry, psychology, and physics, all of which contribute to unraveling the complexities of the brain. Through a neuroscience major,
High school is undeniably stressful, especially so in our program. Not only do our students need to adjust to high school curriculum but college as well. For this reason I’m establishing a peer counselor group. This group of juniors and senior will create a safe space where ECHS students can receive aid under knowledgeable peers. The goal is to improve students’ lives by promoting good mental health practices through positive mentorship.
My passion for helping and supporting those whose economic and financial standings have hindered their growth in our society, has driven me towards social work. I feel I have exhausted every possible avenue in my current degree field. The Social work field also offers versatility which allows me to work in many dimensions, such as clinical, case management, and many other composites which enables me to help every population.
