Evolution and climate change are today’s target in the attack against modern science. The major issue being that it is the 21st century, and we have learned and done enough research to realize that we are changing the world in massive ways. It is surprising in this day and age, that people are trying to discredit science in favor of their views and what religion they believe in.

For example, many creationists use the argument that evolution is just a theory. However, they are confusing the public use of the word theory, for scientific theory, which has a different definition: “a coherent group of propositions formulated to explain a group of facts or phenomena in the natural world and repeatedly confirmed through experiment or observation” (“Scientific Theory”). Often, there is a large misconception that we as humans evolved from monkeys. Creationists use this as part of their argument that evolution is not true, which in itself is not true.. Climate change is a documented fact stated by NASA: “Their ability to affect the transfer of infrared energy through the atmosphere is the scientific basis of many instruments flown by NASA. There is no question that increased levels of greenhouse gases must cause the Earth to warm in response” (NASA). This shows, that Republicans are wrong, because they are not listening to their own government. The reasons that Republicans are denying climate change are because of major oil companies donating and lobbying Republican lawmakers. According to PBS,“The [Oil] industry has also contributed a substantial $82.1 million to federal candidates, parties and political action committees, according to the Center for Responsive Politics. 80 percent of the industry's contributions have gone to Republicans.” (“Big Oil, Big Influence”). The majority of Republicans are denying climate change in order to maintain cash donations from major oil companies. The reason why major oil companies are backing Republicans is because they understand that Republicans are pro-business and are more willing to pass legislation in favor of business rather than for climate change.
