Unaware & In The Dark By Sofia Stagnitti

It's been almost a month since little Sally turned 7 and she moved into the empty bedroom alone. Sally sleeps in the room at the end of the hall, that's where I spend most of my time. I hide in every crevice, every corner, and every nook. Lurking behind bookcases and whispering with the shadows. Every night, Sally shuts off her lights, and crawls into bed, that's when I come out from hiding. I fall upon the room so that no shadows appear. The shadows in Sally's room are relentless, they seize every chance they get to scare little Sally. Forming themselves into ominous shapes, into the scary monsters they wish that they could become. I try to stay as quiet as possible so I don't wake Sally. This has been my routine for the past month. …show more content…

As I slither out from underneath Sally's bed my legs are more cramped than usual, terror streaked across my face. I was in the process of getting a charlie horse. The pain was almost unbearable, a soft groan escaped my lips, just loud enough for an already paranoid child to hear. Startled, Sally sat up in bed her eyes wide. "Mom?" Sally calls, her voice shaking with fear. She could sense that something was in her room. The light in the hall clicks on, filling Sally's room with light. I slip behind the bookshelf. "Sweetie, what's wrong?" Sallys mom asks concerned. "I, I heard a noise" Sally stutters. From behind the bookshelf I caught a glimpse of Sallys mom curled up on the bed, comforting her. "It was probably just the floorboards settling" Sallys mom
