I am very passionate about supporting and helping people from different backgrounds. I am aware that criminal behaviour impacts how our society works and it affects many people, whether they are committing crime or are the victims of crime. I would be delighted to broaden my knowledge about the causes and consequences of committing crime and develop an understanding of different aspects of crime
Criminology offers greater access to knowledge and expertise as it includes many different topics, that would allow me to proceed with my interest of working with individuals and giving them an opportunity to improve their life. My interest began while watching a documentary based on the UK prison system. This made me focus on the outstanding work the staff complete and how they strive to make a positive change to the prisoners life. Particularly supporting the individuals to voice their opinions and understand why they came to the point in their life that made them commit crime. Psychology helps to understand why people act in different ways. I also believe the more I learn about behaviour, the more questions i have. Sociology is very interesting for that matter also as it focuses on social understanding and how society shapes out attitudes and belief. I am familiar with many different methods and models used in the field of health and social health, this includes Maslow's hierarchy of needs. Maslow focused on the self-actualization and the motivation in order for individuals to achieve their full potential. He believed that people need to seek fulfilment and change through personal growth. individuals who are struggling and coming crime, have more chance of rehabilitation by being supported to reflect on where they have previously went wrong.
