The Issues Of Cyberbullying Ever since the internet was created, society has been obsessed with new technology such as: laptops, computers, and cellular devices. The new technologies provide information about a particular subject or the usage of social media. Social media is the best way to keep in touch with friends and family. But, it can also be reached by strangers and enemies as it is one of the main areas to target people and talk about another person, known as cyberbullying. The school should have the capability to discipline these bullies once the issue becomes out of hand because the issues of cyberbullying has caused students to be too distracted to focus on their education and has caught the attention of schools, the government, …show more content…

According to “The Legality of School Responses to Cyberbullying” the Court has determined that, “schools could prohibit student speech and if it ‘materially and substantially interfere[d] with the requirements of appropriate discipline in the operation of the school”. Students have the right to freedom of speech. However, when the words harm others during school hours, schools should be able to interfere. Some schools have added no tolerance for any bullying into the policy to prevent the school from getting sued by the parents of the bully. The Supreme Court abridging the freedom of speech proves that the government supports disciplining those who harm others to prevent instances from happening again. One of the instance consist of sharing one student’s pictures that are very personal to the entire school which causes the student to commit suicide from all the embarrassment. The government is not the only ones who are concerned about cyberbullying. The Constitutional Rights Foundation in Chicago confirms through “The Legality of School Responses to Cyberbullying” that, “additionally, some parents and students have successfully argued that cyberbullies violated civil or criminal laws by, for example, intentionally inflicting emotional distress or committing a hate crime”. Parents and students have gone out of the way to bring the issue of cyberbullying to the court. These people believe that there has been injustice with the victim’s civil rights. In order for bullies to realize what they are doing is wrong, bullies need to be disciplined in order to stop cyberbullying from harming anyone else
