Trump Banning DACA Recently, Donald Trump decided to ban a program called DACA. This could mean a lot for the future of young immigrants in the United States. Is Trump banning DACA a good thing or a bad thing? What is DACA? On June 15, 2012, Barack Obama implemented this policy which is the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, which was an immigration policy that allowed some individuals who entered the United States as minors to receive a renewable two-year deferred action from deportation, and to be eligible for a work permit. This policy does not extend to any of the family of the person who received deferred action. The pros of this include: It provides a possible path for citizenship. It could open up a door to legalization no matter what their immigration status is right now; this would allow people to stay here rather than return to a country that they probably barely remember. Next, it would allow law enforcement to focus on bigger problems than just dreamers that would like to live in the United States. And finally, it would add a specific kind of diversity to the workplace. It would bring in new perspectives to people who work with a variety of employees. The cons of banning DACA include: the decrease of job opportunities. More people in an area calls for more jobs, and these jobs could just be given to immigrants because of their lower wages, and when they become legal they get the same treatment as every other American in the workplace. Next, it could encourage the increase of illegal border movements. This means that granting amnesty to others could encourage more illegal border crossings, and with terrorism being a constant threat everywhere, having an open border is not a risk that the United States needs to take. And finally, it would change the political structure in the United States. Half of latino voters in the United States feel that democrats have more of a concern for them. By allowing a path to citizenship to these immigrants, there is a greater chance of an increase of votes for Democrats, changing the political
