As you can perceive, unlike Campus, with smaller class sizes Haysville High gives each and every student an opportunity to have one on one time with their teachers. To put it differently, Campus High is overpopulated, and the school seemed “crammed.” For instance, there are countless classrooms at Campus that are so full; they do not even have enough desks for the students. Thus, Haysville High is diminutive enough to focus attention on every student, and makes all of us feel accepted. For all these reasons, Haysville High’s environment is more conducive to learning than Campus is.
The children in a school are valued, with an environment that fully encourages and celebrates their learning and progression and how they are developing. The provision of a safe and secure learning environment for all its pupils should be provided through recognizing the importance of welcoming diversity and equal opportunities. The atmosphere within a school should be positive, with this being reflected in the attitudes of the staff and pupils, all caring for and taking pride in their surroundings and in how the learning journey of each pupil takes
Its mission is to act as an agent of change, with special emphasis on education. This foundation looked at the effectiveness of two of Baltimore’s public middle schools Knowledge is Power Program (KIPP) and Crossroads that outperformed some of Baltimore’s public K-8 schools. They found that many of the practices that made KIPP and Crossroads successful are replicable. A few examples of the practices that would have no additional cost associated with them are creating a vision that focuses staff and action in the school, communicating high expectations, increasing the role of the guidance counselor, and creating an in-house alternative to a suspension that does not disengage students from the learning process. Examples of practices that would have a cost associated with them included extending the school day, holding a summer bridge program for incoming 6th-grade students, increasing the numbers of full-time support staff, and building extra-curricular activities with student choice into the longer school day (Abell Foundation,
Over time, schools have become more refined and communicative, especially with the addition of student liaisons at board meetings, reporting on their school’s events, activities, and
What strategies would you use to assess the school climate with the intent of identifying and removing barriers to student learning? • School climate survey given to parents, students and teachers • Interviews with students, parents and teachers. • Monthly forums for parents and teachers • PTOs • Create an Advisory/Leadership Committee with members form the faculty, student body, parents and community (not just the principal, assistant principals and school counselors) to help make new policies to identify and remove barriers to student learning. Have monthly meeting with agendas and create action plans to be incorporated into the educational process that will benefit all of the students achievement goals. • Provide and maintain a safe environment for the faculty and students - this could mean that costly security measures have to be implemented, ranging from Security personnel to metal detectors.
Lynbrook High School is shrinking. Lynbrook’s student population is projected to drop from 1768 students to 1625 by the 2020-2021 school year, a decline that will be accompanied by numerous repercussions. A variety of solutions have been proposed by the FUHSD, the most promising of which is to modify Lynbrook’s enrollment borders. In order to get community feedback, the FUHSD hosted a meeting on Nov. 16 in the Lynbrook auditorium.
Throughout history schools have served an important purpose; they aim to educate children and improve society by giving children the necessary skills needed to make advancements when they become old enough to make contributions. Although, schools are often criticized, by politicians, parents and in some cases the general population, for not serving their purpose properly. Often the people making these judgements are unaware of what is needed in schools. Society has been making judgements towards the education system for centuries and in some instances, it has been for the better. The thought behind the purpose of schooling hasn’t evolved as much as it has been broadened to include the vast majority of the population and along the way it has
This desire manifests itself in many ways, yet at its core is building relationships with students and teachers and then extending these relationships to families and the community. With students, I seek to be visible, greeting the students at the door and working to learn their names. When discipline is necessary, I believe that restorative correction is the best avenue to change behaviors while maintaining relationships. As teachers spend the most time with students during a typical school day, they are essential team members in improving educational outcomes and promoting an inclusive culture. I detail my strategies for working alongside teachers in the subsequent question; however, I strive to support them by creating a culture of trust, safety, training, and collaboration through professional learning communities.
Introduction Conducting educational standards is very imperative when dispensing an effective learning environment for students. Educational standards are normally defined as principles and skills students should retain throughout their educational career as students. These values that students obtain are served as a basis of educational reform across the state, common core values, and nation as educators and stakeholders rejoin the call for a clear definition of desired outcomes of schooling. Educational standards also exemplifies a way to measure student success in terms of these outcomes" (National Research Council 2001). National, state and local (common core) educators plays a significant role in improving students’ learning environment
In the summer of 2017, I was enrolled in the online Elementary School Curriculum class. During this class, I was given an assignment in which I was to write an essay assessing the overall school climate and need. I was also required to develop and include an action plan for an intervention that would address a chosen need. The first step I took was to get copies of Robert Marzano’s Snapshot Survey of School Effectiveness Factors to three of my colleagues. I decided to just walk through the school buildings one day and ask any of the teachers I met to complete one for me.
1. The public school systems has monopoly on local school districts education of grades K-12. Therefore, there are no monetary incentives to help children that need help, or to even help foster excellence. A good teacher would do their best to make sure children learned and achieved excellence, even though there is no incentive economically for those that have reached tenure. When teachers have gained tenure, they cannot be fired, unless they exhibit abusive behavior.
Many people think that most American schools are satisfactory. That is far from what is actually happening. The harsh reality is that schools that are unsatisfactory do exist. In Jonathan Kozol’s “Fremont High School”, he points out the flaws of a high school located somewhere in Los Angeles. This helps shine light on differences in the quality of education in various areas of the country.

Most of my field work has been in The Akron Public School District which has allowed me to gain a lot of experience with urban youth students in the Akron area. I have been placed into preschool, Kindergarten, 1st grade, 5th grade, 6th grade, and high school classrooms which has allowed me to be given a wide variety of experiences with teachers and students. During my placement in the preschool classroom, I was able to learn about the importance of including lessons that enrich each area of a child’s development. While working with the Kindergarten students, I was able to observe a classroom that was run based on centers and small group instruction. I enjoyed working with the students in this classroom as many of the centers were game based which established a fun way for the students to learn.
Over the many years that the school structure has existed it has received much backlash and criticism for not preparing students for real life situations and higher educational institutions such as college. Even though public school institutions gives it’s students the opportunity to develop their social and cognitive skills, as well as discover their own identities, school however lacks the proper curriculum to prepare students for adult life that they must embark on as soon as they graduate from grade school. This issue is apparent in some urban public schools. According to a poll taken in 2016, fifty-percent of parents who reside in New York believe that their children are not prepared for college. In 2017 the documented average SAT score
